The space was dominated by lawn which I’ve since started to turn to meadow, this is no quick process and a subject on its own… also in the garden is woodland and an old orchard.

The focus has been the spaces immediately around the house. These are the social spaces, the spaces visible every day through the windows and doors. So much so that this framing of the views has directed many choices.

A daytime rural scene with a house, wildflowers, and outdoor furniture, under a bright sky.
An outdoor scene featuring a swimming pool surrounded by a wooden deck, yellow outdoor chairs, lush greenery, and a blue sky with some clouds.

A garden filled with various purple, pink, and lavender flowers, with tall green grass and trees in the background under a cloudy sky.
A lush garden with purple and blue flowers, green foliage, a black wooden shed, a gray fence, and a cloudy sky.
A lush garden with various colorful flowers and plants in front of a house with large windows and a dark roof, under a partly cloudy sky.
Outdoor garden patio with lounge chairs, a black umbrella, and lush flowering plants on a sunny day.

The garden continues to be an evolution, the realisation that any design is only as good as the gardener looking after it. Which is why I’ll ask prospective clients quite early on about plans for caring for the space after its built and planted. And also why I’ll emphasise an aftercare plan for the space and encourage occasional catch ups over the years to keep new spaces from losing their way.

A garden scene with various colorful flowers and tall grasses, a concrete sculpture in the foreground, and a house with a shingled roof in the background. The sky is partly cloudy with sunlight illuminating the scene.
A backyard patio with a large table and eight yellow chairs, a closed gray umbrella, and a lush green garden with various plants and bushes, surrounded by trees in the background.
